About the Trust

Established in 1998 from the merger of Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals, the trust has been on a long journey of development and improvement to its current position as the largest provider of acute hospital services to Surrey residents. It became a Foundation Trust in December 2010.

Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (ASPH) serves a population of more than 410,000 people living in the boroughs of Runnymede, Spelthorne, Woking and parts of Elmbridge, Hounslow, Surrey Heath and beyond. The trust employs around 5,300 individual members of staff. Our turnover was £531million in 2025/26.

Ashford Hospital primarily provides planned care, including day case and orthopedic surgery, as well as rehabilitation services. St Peter’s Hospital focuses on delivering more complex medical and surgical care, alongside emergency services.

We are working in collaboration with our partners to ensure our population has access to the highest quality routine and specialist services. We are continually improving these services to better meet our communities’ needs, working together to ensure the right health and care provision is available to people in the right place at the right time to prevent the need for hospital care.

Our vision and strategy

Our Trust Strategy: ‘Together we care’ was launched in 2018, setting out a new vision for the trust to provide an outstanding experience and the best outcomes for patients and the team.

It is consistent with local strategies; the Surrey Health and Wellbeing Strategy and the NHS Long Term Plan. Since then, the COVID pandemic has led us to remarkable and fast-paced transformation in how we deliver healthcare. In 2021, we carried out a strategy refresh to reflect this with revised strategic objectives.

Our mission is to ensure the provision of high quality, sustainable healthcare services to the communities we serve.

Our Services

We provide the following hospital and community-based health services to our catchment population:

• Admitted patient care for planned surgery and emergency medicine and surgery
• Accident and emergency services
• Critical care
• Outpatient services, both in our hospitals and across a number of community settings
• Community midwifery services

We’ve been busy in 2025/26 ...

Over the last year we have:

• Treated 40,179 emergency admissions
• Admitted 63,824 people for planned inpatient and day case procedure
• Seen 122,570 people in our A&E department
• Treated 615,738 patients in our outpatient clinics
• Delivered 2,673 babies
• Had a turnover of £531m
• 117,273 patients seen in virtual outpatient clinics

Medical Care Services Rated Good

Medical care services (including older people’s care) at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Foundation Trust have been awarded a good rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) in its latest report, published earlier this week on Wednesday 30 July. This recognition follows an extensive unannounced inspection in March 2024 which focused on assessing the service against a number of criteria including safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led.
