If you don’t specify where you would like your donation to go, we will put it in our General fund to be used for development projects within the hospitals.
There are so many ways in which you can help us, but first let’s start by giving examples of projects that we believe will make a great difference to patients, relatives and staff:

Children's Unit - Surveillance System
We are thrilled that we have reached our target to purchase a state of the art surveillance system for our children in the High Dependency Unit. Thank you to all who donated to make this possible. We will be arranging a launch to celebrate.
Bladder Scanner (Swan Ward)
During recent years Swan ward has had to borrow a bladder scanner. This bit of kit can really help give faster and more accurate diagnoses. Can we help them to get their own scanner to make this process even faster for our patients? The cost is approximately £7,000, and within two weeks of launching the appeal four members of Swan Ward staff have raised of £1,200 with their sponsored walk up Ben Nevis.
Little Roo Neonatal Fund
The Little Roo Neonatal Fund is for the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St. Peter’s Hospital in Chertsey, Surrey.
The Little Roo Neonatal Fund was set up by a team of doctors, nurses, parents and support staff and is part of the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals Charitable Trust (Reg Charity 1058567) with the specific aim of supporting the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Each Neonatal Intensive care cot costs in the region of £80,000 to fully equip, and we also have been able to purchase an ultrasound machine (£60k), equipment to help babies breathe (£4k to £20k each), a breast milk pasteurizer (£19k) and devices for treating and monitoring potential brain injury (£20k).
Sharon-Peirson Hagger and her husband, Russell along with daughter Mia (aged 10) and son Leo, (aged 13) presented a cheque on 15 August to Dr Tracy Lawson and Dr Peter Martin for £10,000 for Little Roo Neo-natal Fund on behalf of Mia who was born with complications at Ashford and St Peter’s Neo-natal unit ten years ago.
There is always an ongoing need for additional and replacement specialist equipment, and also to send staff for specialist training that the NHS cannot provide funding for.

HASU - Stroke
Our new Hyper Acute Stroke unit opened before Christmas with the aim to become a centre of excellence. One of only a few such units in the South of England, suspected stroke patients are admitted directly to the unit rather than a wait in A&E to enable the golden 4.5 hours window to optimise recovery.
To support this, we are launching an appeal to support HASU, to provide:
- hand held, portable ECG monitors (already funded by the Ashford Rotarians) and
- a portable Doppler scanner that will take considerably less time than a CT or MRI scan.

We are delighted to say that the above items have now been purchased from charitable funds raised by the Ashford Rotarians and the Friends of St. Peter’s hospital.

The Hospitals' Environment
There is a considerable amount of evidence to support creating an attractive natural environment in hospitals to aid the recovery of our patients and to support the health and wellbeing of our staff and visitors. Whether you are a patient recovering from surgery, or a relative who is anxiously awaiting news of a loved one, a quiet serene place to sit and think has to be better than walking the hospital corridors, or sitting in a waiting room.
We have made a start by filling troughs with beautiful flowers outside the entrance to St. Peter’s. This was a very generous donation from Squires Garden Centres.
We had the pleasure of welcoming 21 staff members from Enterprise, a local company who volunteered their time to get their hands dirty and revitalise our courtyard gardens at St Peter’s Hospital.
Already it has made a difference. We have more exciting “green” projects ahead, but cannot proceed without charitable funds to help us.
Our thanks to Enterprise, GSK, VmWare & sales Force who have volunteered to help weed our green areas, and a special thank you to Julie Johnson who brought her entire family in to bring the Peace Garden back to life with beautiful shrubs and plants.
Looking Forward
You may have heard that we are planning to build a completely new Emergency Department in the next two years? It will offer modern, purpose-built facilities and our fundraising aim is to make it more comfortable by providing those extras. Emergency Department visits can often be lengthy so let’s try to make the experience as good as possible by enhancing the environment. Details of how you can help will be posted on this site in due course.

- Ashford Wellness Area – to provide support, counselling, alternative therapies and a place to share for patients diagnosed with cancer and undergoing treatment
- Green projects at ASPH – we are focusing on sustainable green projects across both sites, starting with a staff allotment area.
