Governors for all our public and staff constituencies are filled through formal elections.
How the elections are handled is explained in detail in the Constitution.
Governors are elected for three year terms and are able to stand again. When we were set up in 2010, a number of the Governors were only elected for an initial two year term- we did this to ensure that in 2013 not everyone was due for re-election at the same time! Hence you can see on the Who’s Who of Governors that they do have variable terms of office.
