Macmillan Cancer Support Centre Build Update
Exciting news at the Macmillan Cancer Centre; building works are now complete, and the team has begun moving in, unpacking furniture, and setting up equipment.
The space has also been brought to life with beautiful murals by local artist Michelle Sobihy, creating a warm and calming environment.
Meanwhile, our first group of volunteers have completed their induction and are getting ready to welcome visitors when the centre opens.

Celebrating International Paramedics Day
In July we celebrated International Paramedics Day.
We recognised our fantastic colleagues who began their careers as paramedics in the ambulance service and now use their invaluable skills and experience in a range of roles across the trust.
Their career journeys highlight the lasting value of paramedic expertise and the positive impact it continues to have on patients, colleagues and services across healthcare.
National Recognition for the Urology Team
Our Urology Prostate Cancer Diagnostic Pathway team received national recognition at the Excellence in Clinical Audit Awards 2026.
They were named joint winner of the Evidence into Practice Award, and joint runner-up of the Strategic Impact Award for improving the prostate cancer diagnostic pathway.
Recognition for Surgical Training Excellence
ASPH is celebrating the national recognition of CT2 (core training) surgeon Jeevitha Channappa, who was shortlisted for the prestigious Silver Scissors Award - one of the UK’s highest honours in surgical education.
Run by the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASiT), the Silver Scissors Award recognises early-year surgical trainees who make an outstanding contribution to teaching, mentorship and supporting the development of future surgeons.
2026 Improvement Partnership Event
The 2026 ASPH Improvement Partnership Event brought together colleagues from across local trusts for a day of learning, collaboration and inspiration, focused on driving meaningful improvement in complex healthcare systems.
Many left feeling inspired, motivated, and better equipped to collaborate across professional boundaries, with a renewed commitment to improving outcomes for patients and staff.

June’s Star of the Month
We are delighted to announce Christine Vine, Dermatology Specialist Nurse, as the winner of June’s Star of the Month.
Her nomination was from a patient who was incredibly grateful for her care and empathy.
Christine went above and beyond treating them and made them feel like they were being cared for as an individual.

Colorectal Team Shortlisted
We’re pleased to share that our colorectal team has been shortlisted for Quality Improvement Initiative of the Year at the HSJ Patient Safety Awards 2026. The awards recognise the critical work being done to deliver safe care amid significant change and long-standing pressures across health and care services.
Celebrating 78 Years’ of the NHS
On Sunday 5 July 2026, the NHS marked its 78th birthday and we would like to thank staff for their unparalleled effort and dedication.
To mark the occasion, as well as one year since the launch of the 10-Year Health Plan, the NHS England South East team launched their 78 Faces of NHS South East: The People Behind the Plan campaign.
The campaign celebrates 78 people from across the region whose work is helping deliver the plan’s three shifts: hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention.

Keeping Well During the Warm Weather
As temperatures remaining in the high 20s over the coming weeks, it’s important to look after yourself and your loved ones.
During the warm weather, please:
- Make sure you’re drinking enough water - cool water and other drinks will help you to cool down
- Avoid the hottest part of the day if you can - if you have to go outside, try to stay in the shade between 11am and 3pm and wear sunscreen
- Keep your home cool by closing windows, curtains and blinds during the day, and open them at night once the temperature has gone down
- Keep an eye on the temperature of rooms, especially where there are people at higher risk and make sure to check on them regularly.
