Trust response following recent CQC unannounced inspection at St Peter’s Hospital

Following a recent unannounced inspection at the Trust by the CQC, Chief Nurse Sue Tranka, commented: “We are always very open to visits by the CQC and welcome their feedback and report. Whilst we recognise there are areas for improvement, we were encouraged to see many good areas of practice noted by the inspectors."

Bumps and Pumps – new support group launched for mums with Type 1 Diabetes

Ashford and St Peter’s have recently launched a support group for mums, or mums to be, that have Type 1 Diabetes and use an insulin pump. The support group was set up by Jo McBride our Diabetes and Insulin Pump Specialist Nurse and is held in our specialist diabetes centre Stephanie Marks.

All change! Care of the Elderly is now the Senior Adult Medical Service

The Care of the Elderly Team have been working on various co-design projects with their patients, staff, relatives/carers and stakeholders, over the last few months to improve the department. Our Care of the Elderly department provides treatment for conditions that affect the elderly population. The medical team work across a number of wards throughout the trust.

Premature Babies are helped by ‘Octopus’

Volunteer, Sue Morris and a team of collaborators have been knitting octopuses for the neonatal unit at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals to help premature babies. Sue said: "We are a group of people who crochet and knit little octopuses and jellyfish to comfort babies who decided to come into the world a little earlier than expected."

Urology team launch new ‘virtual’ service

Opening of special Daffodil Room at St Peter’s Hospital

On Monday 12th March, the maternity team hosted a special event to officially open the newly refurbished Daffodil Room at St Peter’s Hospital. The room is used for parents experiencing the devastating loss of a baby, through a later miscarriage, termination of pregnancy for fetal abnormalities, stillbirth or neonatal death.

Mothering Sunday at the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Angela Gray, an employee of Morrison’s of Woking, very kindly donated 30 gift bags to neonatal intensive care unit. The gift bags contained pillows, key rings, cotton wool and mittens for mums on the ward over Mothering Sunday. Angela just wanted to say thanks for all the assistance she received herself from NICU for the birth of her children, including Noah who was born last Easter.

Major Healthcare Improvements for St. Peter’s Get the Green Light

Major improvements to healthcare at St. Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey have moved a step closer after Runnymede Borough Council last week passed a resolution to approve planning permission for the redevelopment of surplus land at the hospital. The result followed on from the officer’s recommendation for approval.

Success for our Infant Feeding Team

We are delighted to announce that our Infant Feeding Team’s skin to skin initiative ‘Project Joey’ has been highly commended by the London Maternity and Midwifery Festival in the team award category, on Tuesday 13th February. ‘Project Joey’ set up by Jo Wilding-Hillcoat, Infant Feeding Team Leader Midwife, aims to provide the ‘birth centre experience’ of uninterrupted skin to skin time with their baby as soon after birth as possible for all mothers including those needing care in theatre.

New Pregnancy Advice Line launched to provide additional support and advice to pregnant women

From 8am on Monday 9th April 2018, a designated telephone advice and triage line will be available for pregnant women to access advice and support 24 hours day, 7 days a week from a midwife.

Additional funding for specialist mental health care in Surrey hospitals

Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides liaison mental health services for people with mental health needs accessing any of the five acute general hospitals in Surrey.

In partnership with The Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Surrey and Borders Partnership, has been awarded ‘Core 24’ funding from NHS England which will allow the expansion of this service from April 2018.

Hospitals celebrate Operating Department Practitioners

Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) have been working within the NHS for over 50 years under varying titles. The role is very similar to nursing but specifically situated in theatres and they are involved in each phase of a person’s operation. It is such a varied role that spans a variety of specialisms including Resuscitation, Critical Care and ITU.

TEDicated Cycle Ride raises amazing funds in memory of baby Teddy Wright

On Friday 18th May, Nico Wright and eight friends set off from Ashford and St Peter's Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on a 9 day cycle ride covering 1,315 kilometers to the Alps and up to the summit of Mont Ventoux - the "hardest of all the mythical Tour de France climbs".
