We’re making transformational changes to our urgent care services and will shortly be opening a brand-new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre for all patients who require urgent and emergency care.
The facility will provide ambulatory care and assessment for emergency patients attending the hospital who need more specialist input than can be provided at our Urgent Treatment Centre or A&E. The SDEC (Same Day Emergency Care) will be on Prince Edward Wing, and is an ambulatory assessment area which offers emergency care to patients at the hospital. This means that patients are assessed, diagnosed, treated and are able to go home the same day, without being admitted into hospital overnight. The CAU (Clinical Assessment Unit) will be on level 1, which is a rapid patient assessment and treatment unit for a range of specialities including Trauma and Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, and Gynaecology.
The Clinical Assessment Unit (CAU) will move to the new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre and will be open to patients at 8am on Friday 27th August.

The CAU will be moving to the first floor of the new centre and will offer additional space and access to brand-new and updated clinical equipment.
There will be no change to how you access the CAU as a patient, you will just be seen in a different location and you will be directed by one of the emergency care team on site.
The new Urgent and Emergency Care Centre has been designed by our clinical teams, patients, and healthcare partners to provide an enhanced, fit for purpose department that ensures patients are treated in the right place, at the right time.

The centre contains the Paediatric A&E.
