Smoking
Stopping Smoking is one of the best things you will ever do for your health. Smoking is still the single biggest cause of preventable deaths, disability, and illness.
We know it’s hard - no matter how long a person has been smoking- and that’s because smokers are addicted to the nicotine in tobacco.
| Stop Smoking support |
ASPH NHS Foundation Trust Tobacco Dependency Treatment Programme recognizes that smoking is an addiction- not a lifestyle choice- and so, should be treated like any other medical condition. Stop smoking support will be available to every patient who is a smoker, attending ASPH NHS Foundation Trust. They will be treated with nicotine replacement therapies and support whilst in hospital. The programme will provide Tobacco Dependency Advisors to help. By building treatment for nicotine addiction into patient’s routine care we will save lives, decrease health inequalities, and reduce demand on the NHS. |
| Support for staff: access to support and treatment for staff who wish to stop smoking |
ASPH as a Smoke Free Site: we will aim to promote a smoke free environment for staff, patients and visitors. How staff can contact the Tobacco Dependency Treatment Team:

| Menopause |
The menopause is when your periods stop due to lower hormone levels, usually happening between the ages of 45 and 55. Menopause can occure earlier than 45 naturally or for reasons such as surgery, genetics and cancer treatments. Before the menopause people experience the perimenopause (when you have symptoms before your periods have stopped), this is when your body starts transitioning to the menopause. You reach menopause when you have not had a period in 12 months. |

Alcohol Awareness
Alcohol Awareness Week serves as a crucial reminder of the importance of understanding and addressing the complex issues surrounding alcohol consumption. The harm caused by alcohol affects millions of people every year in the form of health problems, financial worries, relationship breakdown and family difficulties. Furthermore, alcohol misuse places strain on the NHS, emergency services, police, criminal justice and social support systems. These costs are far-reaching and impact society in many ways.
