NHS: Coronary heart disease
An endoscope is a long, thin, flexible tube that has a light source and a video camera at one end. Images of the inside of your body are relayed to a television screen.
Endoscopes can be inserted into the body through a natural opening, such as the mouth and down the throat, or through the anus (via the bottom).
Alternatively, an endoscope can be inserted through a small surgical cut made in the skin (known as keyhole surgery).
The British Society of Gastroenterology
The British Society of Gastroenterology is an organisation focused on the promotion of gastroenterology within the United Kingdom. It has over three thousand members drawn from the ranks of physicians, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, scientists, nurses, dietitians, and others interested in the field. Founded in 1937 it has grown from a club to be a major force in British medicine, with representation within the British Royal Colleges and consequently the Department of Health and Government. Internationally it is represented at World and European level. The BSG is a registered charity.

Crohn's and Colitis UK aims to improve life for everyone affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) - the main forms being Crohn's Disease and Ulcerative Colitis.
The Primary Care Society for Gastroenterology
Gastrointestinal and digestive disorders account for one in ten consultations in primary care and the same proportion of referrals to specialists. The costs of investigations and prescribing for gastrointestinal complaints are considerable. Decisions about commissioning and clinical governance in gastroenterology require primary care input and national policy in gastroenterology also needs to be informed by GPs and their community based colleagues. The PCSG is ideally placed to provide advice and support through consultation with committee members and dialogue with our large and experienced membership.
Core
Core funds research across all areas of gut and liver disease - these disease areas receive less funding than others and are the primary reason that Core exists. We aim to fund significant research across a diverse field of activities from the lab to patient services, supporting scientific breakthroughs and advances in patient care.
The Royal College of Radiologists
The role of The Royal College of Radiologists is to advance the science and practice of radiology and oncology, further public education and promote study and research through setting professional standards of practice. The College is a charity registered with the Charity Commission (no. 211540).
